Привид Києва 

Ця мініскульптурка присвячена збірному образу бійців 40-ї бригади тактичної авіації, які з початку повномасштабного вторгнення російських окупаційних сил боронять небо над столицею та Київською областю.

24 лютого 2022 року – після першої хвилі ракетних ударів – ворожа авіація атакувала українські аеродроми. За планом вторгнення, який оприлюднила американська розвідка, підрозділи російських сил мали висадитися на аеродромі Гостомель і звідти рушити на столицю. Взяття Києва мало бути блискавичним.

У воєнних зведеннях з'явилися повідомлення, що пілот українського літака МіГ-29 за перші 30 годин війни збив 6 ворожих літаків: Cy-27, МіГ-29 та по два літаки Су-35 та Су-25. Охоронця неба назвали Привидом Києва. Однак хто цей легендарний льотчик – було невідомо.

Щодня інформаційні телеграм канали вели рахунок знищеної ним ворожої техніки. Коли цифра преступила за сорок, військові експерти висловили сумніви, що йдеться про одного воїна.

1 березня з'явилася інформація, що пілот загинув у бою. І тоді радник керівника Офісу Президента України Олексій Арестович озвучив версію, що Привид Києва – це не одна людина, а повітряний загін.

Пізніше з'явилася ще одна версія, що Привид – 29-річний майор Степан Тарабалка. 13 березня він загинув у повітряному бою біля Житомира. Йому присвоєно звання Героя України посмертно.

Згодом командування повітряних сил повідомило, що Привид Києва – це збірний образ льотчиків Васильківської 40-ї бригади тактичної авіації. Саме вони охороняють небо над Києвом і в перші тижні повномасштабного наступу вели важкі бої, у яких ворог мав значну перевагу в кількості.

О 5:15 ранку 24 лютого 2022 року авіабаза Васильків, де базується 40-ва бригада, зазнала ворожого ракетного удару. Але бойовий склад бригади був піднятий у небо і не постраждав.

Після невдачі в Гостомелі російський десант намагався висадитися на аеродромі у Василькові. Однак ця спроба теж провалилася. Український винищувач Су-27 атакував ворожий військово-транспортний літак Іл-76 і знищив його.

Про Привида Києва склали пісню. Столичні комунальники присвятили йому квіткову інсталяцію. Національний банк України працює над монетою із зображенням льотчика-героя, яка увійде до серії, присвяченої загальнонаціональному спротиву російським загарбникам. У Японії про Привида Києва намалювали комікс.

Ghost of Kyiv

This mini sculpture is dedicated to the collective image of the soldiers of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade who have been defending sky over Kyiv and Kyiv region since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian occupation forces.

On 24th February 2022 after the first wave of the missile strikes, enemy aircraft attacked Ukrainian airports. According to the plan of invasion, released by the US intelligence, units of Russian forces had to land at Hostomel airfield and from there move to the capital. The capture of Kyiv had to be lightning - fast.

Military reports said that during the first 30 hours of the invasion the pilot of the Ukrainian MiG – 29 shot down 6 enemy aircraft: Su -27, MiG – 29, two Su -35s and two Su – 25s. The guardian of the sky was nicknamed the Ghost of Kyiv. Yet, no one knew who that legendary pilot was.

Every day information telegram channels kept track of the enemy equipment destroyed by the Ghost of Kyiv. When the number exceeded forty, military experts started doubting that it was a single soldier.

On March the 1st it was reported that the pilot had died in combat. Then, the advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Oleksii Arestovych, voiced the version that the Ghost of Kyiv is not a single person but rather an air detachment.

Later on, another version appeared that the Ghost of Kyiv was a 29 –year - old Major Stepan Tarabalka who on March the 13th died in an air battle near Zhytomyr. He was posthumously honored the title of Hero of Ukraine.

Afterwards, The Air Force Command reported that the Ghost of Kyiv was a collective image of the pilots of the Vasylkiv 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade. It was they who guarded the sky over Kyiv and during the first weeks of the full-scale invasion fought heavy battles in which the enemy had a significant advantage in numbers.

At 5:15 am on February the 24th 2022 the Vasylkiv Air Base where the 40th brigade is based was hit by the enemy missile. Nevertheless, the brigade's fighting force was raised to the sky and was not injured.

After the failure in Hostomel, Russian landing party was trying to land at the Vasylkiv airfield. However, they failed this time as well. Ukrainian Su – 27 fighter attacked an enemy military transport aircraft IL – 76 and destroyed it.

A song was composed about the Ghost of Kyiv. The capital's communal services dedicated a flower installation to him. The National Bank of Ukraine is working over the coin depicting a hero pilot which will be included into the series dedicated to the nationwide resistance to Russian invaders. A comic book was drawn about the Ghost of Kyiv in Japan.
